Bookshelf Transformation

I love bookshelves! I don’t know why. If I could fill all my walls with shelves, I would be in heaven! I still see “The Beauty and the Beast” and see that library and get jealous. Jealous! But we do the best with what we have. And I don’t even have that many books to fill an entire library so who am I kidding really??

Now bookcases are pretty boring if you ask me. I mean there are some really pretty ones out there, but the affordable ones lack personality. So here I am trying to bring personality to this boring bookcase. I got it from on OfferUp for $15. Others like this one were going for $40 or more. So I got it and was really excited to get to work. This is what I did.

First, I took off the backing (which was just stapled to the back).

Then, I primed and painted the bookshelf with a light gray to match my rocking chair.

For the backing, I used drawer lining paper. It was self-adhesive, but it wasn’t sticking too much. This was no issue though. When I stapled the backing back onto the bookshelf, the paper stayed in place. I also had to do it horizontally and go down. I tried to put the lining paper all the way down but it wasn’t wide enough to cover the entire back. Horizontally, you can see where one section ends and the other begins but not as much. And since you’re filling the bookcase with books it’s not very noticeable.

And that was it! You’re done within one day and you have a much cuter bookcase. Also, since you’re picking the paint and lining paper, you have so many options!  You can choose any color and paper that matches your style and decorations at home so this works for everyone!

Let me know what you think! And if you have any other tips to transform a furniture piece please share with the rest of us 😀

Cute idea! We have bookshelves in literally every room of the house, but it doesn’t bother me that they’re so basic as long as they hold all my pretty, pretty books. Haha!
